Recently I’ve been thinking about how China is releasing models for free and America is not and I feel like We’re at a historic point where things are about to change and this might be cliche and and I’m not in a very good position to see everything but at least from my perspective it seems like we’re at a critical point. So I’ll just leave my thoughts here. Make of that what you will.
So for a long time, as long as I’ve been alive, America has basically run the world. A developer working on some other part of the world other than America will not get paid as much as people working in America and we might say that the lifestyle differences, purchase power disparity and all that but in the end it means that America has much more facilities and we do not and I don’t think that is a reason for their currency to be so much stronger than other countries currency.
And currency is one thing that is for the people. For example, India and China have so many people there, and a person from America who earns a decent income could probably pay off the yearly salary of people average people working in India or China without thinking too much. It seems quite unfair because people in India or China might be working equally as hard or harder but their payment is not as big as the American guy and This might be the American privilege, but it is just what’s happening right now. And it seems unfair to me because if all you have is money and no people, what value does money have? So to spend your money you need to be part of a society who accept the money and the largest group of people India and China have their own currency and their value for the same amount of work, same effort is not as valuable as someone who has a foreign currency. And because a larger proportion of people are I guess not getting paid fairly in the current system that I feel this is unfair.
And I think why is such a disparity there? and for from America’s side it i it seems like they can be in power as long as their currency is strong and they do a bunch of things to keep their currency strong. But the result is that since their currency is strong they could influence the world in much more well in a much greater way than someone in India could and even though the people working there are putting in the same effort the outcome like the influence they have is way too great and so I think all the countries are trying to like break the structure that is America. like China could keep their models closed source.
They don’t because they don’t want these companies anthropic and open AI to have gigantic valuations and influence the world even more. if the money is being created there which there is then it is in the interest of other countries to not let it be created there so the influence is down I know this is a very narrow perspective but I think to some extent this is happening and the byproduct is that we’re getting open source models and that’s awesome.
I hope we keep gaining open source models and at this point I much so like someone who is against America but from a personal perspective siding with China makes more sense right now but I also realized that China would do the same thing if it were in the position of America Yeah, just some thoughts.
